Yopal is a Colombian municipality, capital of the Department of Casanare. Its name is derived from the word indigenous achagua quot; yopos quot; whose meaning is heart, but it is also the name of a (yopo) tree that was abundant in the region, so Yopal means place where the yopos abound.
